Spence puts pen to paper

West Ham United is delighted to announce that, prior to kick-off today, young schoolboy defender Jordan Spence will sign his first full-time contract with the Club.

The Woodford-born youngster, who is captain of the England under-16 team, has been at Upton Park since the age of 14 and will join the Academy playing staff this summer.

A versatile performer, Jordan is comfortable as a central defender or midfielder, and has already appeared for the under-18 side on a number of occasions this season.

Academy Director Tony Carr says: "Jordan is a very talented young boy who has developed well over the past 12 months.

"He has experience with our under-18 team already and has represented England on a number of occasions at schoolboy level.

"He has equipped himself very well at both club and international level and we believe that, if he continues to progress and show the same dedication and enthusiasm, he is definitely one for the future."
