Konch's Cup Quest

FAR from seeing the Carling Cup as a distraction from League duty, defender Paul Konchesky believes that it is another opportunity for the Hammers squad to look forward to.

And with many first-team regulars unlikely to make the trip, Konch believes it's a great opportunity for some of the fringe members of the team to stake their claim.

He said: "It's another match and something for myself and the boys to look forward to. Doing well in a cup competition will help us keep the momentum going that we have built in the League.

"Chelsea won it last year, but the Carling Cup is not always high on some of the big club's agendas, so perhaps that will work in our favour and give us a better chance of winning it. At the end of the day, it's a cup and it's always nice to win one of those!

"It would be great for the Club and the players' confidence to win another game and hopefully help us keep our good run going.

"Some of the players have been rested for this one, but that will be a great opportunity for some of the lads who haven't been playing regularly to get a go.

"Playing Premier League football is all about having a strong squad and with a tough schedule you need to have strong players waiting in the wings.

"We have that and I'm sure it will show. Sheffield Wednesday will be really up for the game, but hopefully we can put in a strong display and come away with a place in the next round."
