Ladies Hold Cardiff To Draw

HAMMERS Ladies earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw with Cardiff City on Sunday.

Only outstanding performances by both goalkeepers, in particular Clare Lacey for West Ham, prevented this from being a very high scoring game in what was a superb advertisement for ladies football.

The visitors were awash with Welsh internationals and are thus far unbeaten in the League this season.

There were chances for both sides in an end to end encounter, and in the first-half for the Hammers an effort by Vicki Lewis was disallowed for off-side.

In the second-half Cardiff were always dangerous on the break and again only some outstanding keeping from Clare Lacey kept the Bluebirds at bay.

The Hammers forced an incredible succession of corners and showed an admirable amount of self belief for a side still seeking their first win at this level.

In the end you would have to concede that a draw was a fair result but if West Ham United can perform like this for the remainder of the season it promises to be a strong campaign.

Next week the Ladies are away at Southampton.

WEST HAM UNITED: Clare Lacey, Carly Roache, Stacey Crump, Christina Oshodi, Kate Turney, Vicki Lewis, Lyndsay Morgan, Aoife Aherne, Kerry Stimpson, Vicki Bruce, Sam Pittuck.  SUBS: Natalie Grafton, Nicola Dundsen, Kate Fanning.

The Hammers Ladies Reserves beat Cardiff City 2-1 with goals from Hayley Barton securing the win. Trailing to an early Cardiff goal Hammers keeper Tracey Sendall pulled off some fantastic saves. The winner from Hayley came two minutes from time.
