Noble In England Under-19s

MARK Noble has been named in the England Under-19 squad for next month's friendly clash against Switzerland.

Martin Hunter has named a strong, 18-man squad for the match.

Young Southampton winger Nathan Dyer, who scored on his first-team debut against Southend in August, has been called up along with Derby's Lee Holmes.

Billy Jones, who has scored three goals in 60 League appearances for Crewe Alexandra, is also in the squad and will provide Hunter with an experienced option in either defence or midfield.

The Under-19s entertain the Swiss at Wycombe Wanderers and will go into the game on the back of their UEFA Friendly Tournament earlier this month.

With England already in the Elite Stage of qualifying for the European Championships, the preparatory competition in Poland, where the Finals will be staged next season, lined-up those sides exempt from the First Stage.

Lee Holmes and Gavin Rothery were on target as England beat the hosts 'A' team 2-0 in Poznan. But defeats to Poland 'B', a replacement for Spain, and Czech Republic consigned the Three Lions to a third place finish.

Meanwhile, Switzerland were busy qualifying for the Elite Stage, which will be drawn at the end of November. They finished top of Group 8, level on points with Scotland - who also qualified - following victories over Finland (2-0) and Andorra (12-0).

The match at Wycombe Wanderers' Causeway Stadium will kick-off at 7.00pm.
