ACADEMY Director Tony Carr was delighted with his side's
performance as they outplayed highly-rated Southampton to win 1-0.
Tony said: "It was a good performance and a very good result.
We played well and with a bit of luck could have had one or two
more.
"Tony Stokes had a couple of good chances and Chris Cohen
should have scored late on. David Cowley hit the bar off the
goalkeeper and we had one or two other opportunities.
"I thought we fully deserved the win for a good all round
performance. Everybody stuck to their task, did their job, worked
hard and it was a good win."
With no Reserve game this week and a break for the Academy next
weekend, Tony was able to field a strong side against the Saints
and it paid off.
"If we could put that side out every week I don't think
we'd lose many games," he confessed. "Obviously we
went to Southampton with a strong side because we didn't want
to take a young side down there against a team with their record.
That wouldn't have done anybody any justice.
"We went there with a good team to really put Southampton to
the test and we did that very well.
"I don't know whether they had their strongest side out,
but it's all swings and roundabouts. You can only go by what
happens on the day and we did very well.
"I thought we were the better side and thoroughly deserved to
win."
