Fundraiser For Fallen Firefighters

A CHARITY football match in memory of firefighters Bill Faust and Adam Meere will be played at Upton Park on Thursday 26th May.

Bill and Adam, both from Whitechapel fire station, died after attending a blaze in Bethnal Green Road on 20 July last year.

"The match is our way of paying tribute and raising funds for the families of our departed colleagues," said match organiser Jamie Trew, from Ilford fire station. "All of the money raised will be going towards the Bill Faust and Adam Meere Fund.  Before we have kicked a ball we have raised £2,000 and we hope to raise a lot more on the night for this worthy cause.

"I¹d like to thank West Ham United; all the players taking part and a big thank you to the companies who have donated prizes for the raffle.  These include a mountain bike, free gym membership, vouchers from high street stores and many more prizes up for grabs."

The match will kick-off at 7:45pm after a one minute silence has been observed.  Firefighters from Ilford, Poplar, Bethnal Green, Islington, Leyton, Stratford, Shadwell and Shoreditch are participating.  They have been split into two teams. Pump Ladder XI will play in the away strip of Arsenal who Bill Faust supported and Pump XI will play in the red of Manchester United who were Adam Meere's favourite side.

At half-time members of the crowd will be able to come on and take a penalty for a  donation of just £10.

Tickets are available from Ilford Fire Station, 460 High Road or on the gate at a cost £6.50 for adults and £1.50 for children.
