HOGAN Ephraim's 72nd minute goal has given West Ham United
Under-18s a 1-0 at Millwall.
There was little in the way of first-half action to warm the
spectators on a cold morning in South London until Darren Behcet
was forced into a superb save with half an hour gone.
Shortly afterwards Tommy Laws met Ishmael Welsh's corner with
an acrobatic overhead kick that would have been a Goal of the
Season contender had it been on target.
Two minutes later Welsh supplied Richard Georgio, but his shot was
comfortably saved by the Millwall goalkeeper.
The second-half began as sedately as the first, and Hammers had to
wait until the 69th minute for another sight at goal, Ryan Andrews
firing a shot just wide. David Cowley then pulled his shot wide
with the goal at his mercy, before a slip by Masterton in the
Millwall goal finally gave Tony Carr's side the breakthrough
they deserved.
Welsh was again the supplier swinging in a cross from the left that
Masterton dropped at the feet of Ephraim who tucked the ball away
to secure a well-earned three points for the Hammers.
WHU: Behcet; Laws, Andrews, White (Tomkins 46), Blewitt, Wright,
Georgio, Cowley, Davidson, Ephraim (Ashikodi 82), Welsh.
