DEFENDER Andy Melville has joined Nottingham Forest on loan. The
former Welsh international has signed for three months at the City
Ground.
Manager Alan Pardew explained that the 36-year-old former Fulham
star made the move in search of first-team football.
"Unfortunately, Andy hasn't had a lot of chances to play
recently," he said. "With Malky Mackay coming back to
fitness we have one senior defender in the squad already, and Andy
isn't the type of player that is happy sitting on the
sidelines.
"He really wants to play first-team football and hopefully
he'll get the chance at Forest."
Pards revealed that the departure of Melville could pave the way
for a player to come into the squad.
"We are trying to bring a defender in," he said,
"and hopefully something will happen in the next week or so.
"Because of Tomas Repka's suspension we were trying to get
something sorted out this week in time for Sunday's game, but
it hasn't been possible.
"We do need some cover at the back, though, and it's an
area I am looking to strengthen."
