ON this day in 1945, West Ham beat Coventry 6-3 in the Southern League with goals from Ken Wright, John Woodgate, Alec Foreman and Jackie Wood.

Jackie Wood made 61 appearances and scored 15 goals for the Hammers before transferring to Leyton Orient.

Leyton Orient were West Ham's FA Cup fourth round opponents in the triumphant season of 1980.

In the FA Cup fifth round in 1980 the Hammers beat Swansea 2-1 with goals from Paul Allen and David Cross.

David Cross became the clubs record signing for £180,000 arriving from West Bromwich Albion in 1977.

In the 1977/78 season Bryan 'Pop' Robson was West Ham's leading scorer with11 goals.

Eleven was the shirt number John Sissons was wearing when he scored the Hammers first ever FA Cup Final goal in 1964.

John made his debut in May 1963, during a 1-0 defeat at Upton Park to Blackburn Rovers.

Blackburn were beaten 2-0 at Upton Park in February 1999 when Paolo Di Canio scored his first Hammers goal.

Paolo also struck a penalty in a 1-1 draw away at Leicester City on December 22, 2001.
