Malky Leaves Hammers

DEFENDER Malky Mackay's West Ham United contract has been terminated by mutual consent.

The Scottish international arrived at Upton Park from Norwich City in September 2004 and went on to make 22 appearances last season.

The 33-year-old admitted that he is sad to be leaving West Ham United behind.

He said: "I'm sorry to be leaving West Ham. It's a terrific Club and I've thoroughly enjoyed my time here.

"But at this stage of my career I need to be playing football on a regular basis and to do that I feel that it is the right time to move on.

"I'd like to wish everyone at West Ham United success for this season and beyond."

Last season's Play-off Final victory meant that the Scottish international had been involved in consecutive promotions, after helping the Canaries to the Premiership in 2004.

Malky began his career with Queens Park before moving to Celtic in August 1993. After five years at Parkhead he joined Norwich in September 1998.
