Steve, who made his comeback game in the 3-2 win over Notts. County, knows that the players that were ineligible for that match are ready to return.
"I need games and it is a vicious circle because that is how you get fit, but if the lads are doing well there is not much you can do," he says.
"I feel great; I have spoken to the gaffer and with the lads having a few decent results he might just stick with the lads that are in there - we will have to wait and see.
"I hope we can click into gear with the competition we have got now - it is not good when the team is picking itself every week because you haven't got the players.
"In the last couple of years it has been pretty bad for me with injuries so I am hoping for a change of luck.
"I felt a little bit stiff on Wednesday but that is normal after being out for a while."
Steve knows the performance against County was below par and adds:
"If you give the goals away we did it is a problem because the two goals were absolutely basic defending.
"When you take the lead twice and then give goals away you get apprehensive, it doesn't matter who you are playing.
"You miss a penalty and you think 'hold on, is it going to be one of those nights?'
"It was a lot harder than it should have been but if you look at the competition it often happens.
"At one stage they were basically just playing with two banks of five and it is pretty hard to break teams down when they do that."
