Alan Wants Fizz

Alan Pardew insists he is going all out for victory against Notts. County on Tuesday night in the Carling Cup even though his team selection will be different from that which beat Rotherham and drew with Ipswich in the last two games at Upton Park.

"It may be a chance to give one or two a comeback game," he says, "but ultimately we want to win the match - so we have to make sure we get the balance right between who is coming in, and getting the result.

"Last year it went well for us; we had a similar situation where we could freshen players up and that is what we will do this time - it keeps the competition going within the squad.

"I am looking forward to a good cup run and in general we are on a good run at the moment so it is important to keep the momentum going."

That momentum was not too badly disturbed by the draw against Ipswich and he adds:

"I thought the team was excellent on Saturday though I was a little disappointed with the finish of the game.

"In the first half we were sublime and maybe if we had gone on and got the second goal we would have got the victory.

"Although we were all disappointed to get the draw on Saturday I feel we have come some distance from where we were and we are going to be very close this year."
