Anton Ferdinand has not broken his leg despite speculation that was
the outcome of his being taken off while on England U21 duty this
week.
There has been reports of a possible broken fibula sustained against Poland on Tuesday but fortunately those have proven to be wide of the mark.
Confirming the good news, club doctor Sean Howlett says:
"Anton has seen [club consultant] Mr. McAuliffe and there is no break - but he is still in severe pain."
Anton, who has made four starts this campaign, does have severe bruising and is ruled out of the trip to Sheffield United on Saturday, meaning another reshuffle in the defence.
If Andy Melville returns from Welsh duty unscathed after being on the injured list himself recently, he is likely to play.
