Looking back on the loss at Loftus Road, Steve says:
"I think the endeavour was there but maybe we got a little bit sucked into playing their way; on a tight pitch they were happy to make it a physical battle, and for whatever reason we couldn't get it down.
"Whether that was a culmination of them closing us down or our passing not being as good as it should, I don't know - it could have been a bit of both.
"Nigel had a good chance early on and maybe if we had scored that it would have taken the edge off and we might have been able to get it down a little bit.
"But it is all ifs and buts - we didn't create too many chances on the day; they made it hard and battled but we were disappointed because we felt we could have created a lot more."
At last getting a start after his injury problems was, reckons Steve, scant consolation for the defeat.
"I was pleased to get 90 minutes and felt good about that but obviously I was disappointed with the result," he says.
"We just have to look forward to these two home games now and we have to win them - it is as simple as that.
"We dug ourselves out of a bit of a hole with the win at Wolves but we let ourselves down a bit on Saturday, and now we need two victories."
