Duo Missing

Malky Mackay is ruled out of the visit of Wolves at the weekend, as is Anton Ferdinand.

"Malky is unavailable, and so too is Anton who has a hamstring - and I think will be unavailable for the England U21 trip next week," says Alan Pardew.

"Matthew Etherington has got a slight knock as has Nigel Reo-Coker."

Alan knows the pressure to produce a win has been intensified by not getting maximum points in the last two games, and he adds:

"I said to the boys that apart from six minutes of madness at Forest we would be happy with those four points we would have got."

Looking at the Derby game, he says:

"They caught us cold with a set play and we would like to have done better but we showed good character - we could easily have crumbled after conceding the early goal.

"We were agitated but you have to take the rough with the smooth; we all thought Marlon should have had a penalty.

"But you couldn't fault the fans; they were magnificent for us."

Meanwhile, explaining why he decided to let Adam Nowland go out on loan, he adds:

"He has been doing very well and it is important he keeps on playing.

"But we have got him back for the Chelsea game when we have a couple cup-tied so we will see how that runs."

Alan is looking to keep Chris Powell beyond his initial one month loan - which expires after the Wolves game - and he adds:

"I have had a conversation with Alan Curbishley and expressed my feelings that I would like him to stay for another month or maybe two months, so that is an encouraging sign.

"We are hoping to keep Calum Davenport with us longer than his initial three month loan as well.

"In both cases we are in contact with their clubs and trying to look after their players as well as we can while they are doing a good job with us - and hopefully that situation can continue."

Don Hutchison came through his comeback game on Tuesday in the reserves and Alan adds:

"Don has had a fair bit of trouble with his knee this year but he is back now and we would like to see him back to his best."

Christian Dailly is still out, of course, and his comeback time is rated by Alan as:

"Two months or six weeks, maybe."
