Alan On Fletcher

MANAGER Alan Pardew has quashed rumours that he is interested in bringing Manchester United midfielder Darren Fletcher to the Boleyn Ground.
He said: "We have made no approach or enquired about Darren Fletcher.

"There is some money available to spend after the sale of Adam Nowland to Nottingham Forest, and we are looking to bring in one more player, but who that is or what position he plays in, I can't say at the moment."

However, Alan was keen to stress the importance of a player named Fletcher who is part of the Hammers squad, midfielder Carl.

"Carl is a very versatile player who can play in defence or midfield," added Alan. "His range of passing is very good, he's strong in the tackle, and he was another player who did very well against QPR last weekend.

"He is also a good finisher, and scoring goals from midfield is one area where we are looking to improve, so hopefully Carl, or one of our other midfield players, will be able to get on the scoresheet against Brighton."
