"We brought Adam in for nothing, really, from Wimbledon, and it is a sizeable fee that we are getting," he explains.
"He hadn't broken into the first team and got a regular spot - so this gives me money for perhaps someone that can."
Adam made 15 league appearances, ten of which were as a substitute, since his move from Wimbledon last January, and more recently started against Chelsea in the Carling Cup.
Adds Alan:
"He has had the best part of 10 months to break into the side - but he has progressed here, there is no doubt about that.
"We just felt that the money might be important to us in terms of strengthening the first eleven, which is what it is all about.
"He has been a great servant to us; we wish him all the best at Forest and I think he will do well there.
"But, as I say, the priority for us is the first eleven and unfortunately he couldn't force his way through - which is why he has moved on."
