The Latics are the only undefeated side in the country, and gained a creditable 2-0 win over Leeds at Elland Road on Sunday helped by a goal from former West Ham reserve Jimmy Bullard.
They are six points clear of nearest challengers Ipswich and Reading, but Alan is not losing any sleep about that.
"You can see by the TV coverage yesterday that they are at the top of their game but Paul Jewell is experienced enough to know we are only 16 games in - and there is a long, long way to go yet," he says.
"They are looking good at the minute - but that can change, and sometimes one result can kick start somebody to make a run and put pressure on or likewise knock the stuffing out of them.
"So we are very much aware that it is about us, the results we get, and no one else."
