"We know there is a big gap but we don't generally concentrate on that; we just take each game as it comes - and this is when the pressure really kicks in for all the teams near the top," he says.
"We need to pick up points home and away and the important factor is that there is competition - players outside the squad who are hungry for a chance.
"We have competition at West Ham in every position in the field and that is what is making us stronger and stronger.
"The mood is great and everyone is looking forward to the games."
Nigel scored a spectacular strike against Crewe recently and says:
"The most important thing for me was the win but luckily for me the shot went into the top corner.
"There was some great football played and good attacking play; and we defended as a team and individually, so it showed.
"Their two goals altered the mood but it shows how times are changing at West Ham; we didn't crumble under the pressure,we kept our nerves, and we sealed the win."
Speaking ahead of Millwall, he adds:
"It is a massive game and the atmosphere will be electric; all that matters is getting three points."
