Alan is delighted by current custodian Steve Bywater's reaction to making what was, by his own admission, an error for the third goal at Sheffield United the week before the Wolves game, and says:
"Stephen had a real mental challenge on Saturday; he made a mistake for the goal at Sheffield United and he is always the first to hold his hands up and admit that.
"But it is the way that he reacted that was the most pleasing to me, because he could have gone in his shell and started to hide and become mentally scarred by it.
"But he didn't; he actually got stronger, was positive afterwards - and that is a really good sign for him and us."
As for the interest in Celtic's Swedish keeper Hedman, Alan says:
"There are only three or four days to the deadline; it would had to have happened before then and I think it is highly unlikely."
Alan took another keeper, Chris Weale, on trial from Yeovil last week, and he explains:
"He is very much in our thoughts and that situation isn't over for us; whether we pursue it and for us to bring him to West Ham, he has to continue his progress and keep playing at the level he is if he wants to have that chance of coming to one of the blue riband clubs."
But Alan, who recently sold David James and Ian Pearce to Manchester City and Fulham, is still looking to bring players in and he reveals:
"I'd anticipate one or two signings - but the most important thing is that they have the right character and the right attributes to be a West Ham player.
"There aren't too many of those that you can pick up at the sort of fees that we got Harewood, Mullins, Reo-Coker and Nowland for.
"It is not as if you can find them easily - but we are going to make sure our targets are well scouted and that we are thorough with them."
Regarding Spurs striker Bobby Zamora, Alan is keen to play the 'link', which David Pleat claimed was there from West Ham, down.
MD Paul Aldridge stated categorically here at the weekend that there had been no contact made with Spurs regarding Jermain Defoe, despite claims, and, similarly, in terms of Zamora, there is nothing doing regarding a transfer in the other direction either.
"If he has announced that publicly then I am a bit disappointed but certainly I did not make a bid for him," says Alan.
"The only 'enquiry' I made about Zamora was that we had a discussion about him and it was no more than that, a bit like we discussed Gary Doherty and a few other players that perhaps are not regulars at Spurs.
"I am always discussing players with all managers; I want to know if players are in their plans or not - and it was purely that."
