A larger than usual crowd turned out to welcome Bobby back home and see him equalise for West Ham just before the break after having an earlier volley disallowed for offside.

Dexter Blackstock had earlier scored for the Saints, who top the Premier Reserve League South.

Chris Baird was sent off for a professional foul on Greg Pearson in the second half, while for West Ham, Steve Lomas and Darren Blewitt were booked.

Says Roger Cross:

"Bobby feels he should have had two with that fantastic volley."

Explaining his inclusion in the second string game, he adds:

"We just thought it was a good idea that he played for us - he wants to be playing in the first team obviously but it was nice to get to know the lads with this game.

"He is fully match fit and in good condition."

Sebastien Carole made his first appearance as well for West Ham, and of his introduction to first team football, Roger says:

"He was not so productive in the first half in the fact that we didn't move the ball quick enough and get it to him.

"But then he started coming off the line a little bit and got himself more involved.

"He showed some nice touches in the second half and I was very pleased."

As for Jamie Day, on trial from Peterborough and also making his first West Ham appearance, Roger says:

"He is only 17, a very young boy, and I was quite happy with him.

"He is brave, he has got pace, and he has a very good left foot - he is a little bit disappointed with his performance because he feels he can do better and I know he can do better as well."

As for whether he could make it at West Ham, Roger says diplomatically:

"Possibly - but he is Peterborough's player!"
