Trent made his first start for the club in the Carling Cup against Southend on Tuesday, hot on the heels of coming on as substitute for Hayden Mullins at Crewe at the weekend.
"It was a good experience, just like Saturday, and a step up," he says.
"It was difficult but eventually I got into the game and I felt comfortable.
"I didn't know I was playing until just before the game but I was preparing for it anyway.
"Of course I was nervous - and I think it would be wrong if you weren't.
"It is a step up from the reserves, and obviously you have to contend with the crowd.
"It is a different style of football but once you start to play the nerves go away.
"I was concentrating on doing as well as I could to make my way through the game."
Trent acknowledges it was a bit worrying towards the climax of the game on Tuesday but says:
"Southend came out stronger in the second half but we did well to hang on in the end, I think."
Whether he remains in the side on Saturday depends largely on Hayden Mullins' fitness, and Trent says:
"All I can do is play my best and hope I get a chance."
He is delighted that fellow Antipodean Richard Garcia scored a hat trick in the midweek friendly win over Peterborough and smiles:
"Richie is my mentor - the oldest Aussie left at the club - so I have to keep the tradition going!
