"I was a little bit surprised that I got it but it was one of those things when Christian got injured; I suppose I was the next experienced man to come along," he says, modestly.
Under his guidance on the field, Teddy helped inspire the 3-2 win at Gresty Road on Saturday, and he says:
"It was a great result for us and after losing to Wigan we needed to bounce back, which is what we did.
"I was pleased with two goals and Rufus chipped in with another in a good footballing game that should have been well over by the time they got their second goal."
He reckons it will be another rollercoaster ride for the Hammers, as evidenced by the last two performances, and he adds:
"I am sure that is going to happen quite a lot this season; there will be lots of ups and downs and in the first half on Saturday we probably could have been about six up.
"Having said that, they could have had three or four in the second half and embarrassed us by beating coming back from a 3-0 deficit.
"There are no great teams and there are no terrible teams in this division; everyone can beat everyone and I am sure there are going to be so many ups and down before the end of the season."
Teddy has been impressed with the younger players at the club and adds:
"A few players came in; Adam Nowland was, I thought, very good in midfield, very comfortable on the ball and he lays a lovely pass in - I thought he was outstanding.
"Young Trent has come in for his debut; I have played against him in training and he looks a very good player who will hopefully get his chance with Hayden having a little bit of a back problem.
"It gives the opportunity for youngsters to come in when others get injured."
