Young defenders Darren Blewitt and Trent McClenahan have been added
to the squad that travelled to Crewe.
Also called up is Mark Noble as Alan Pardew faces selection decisions that rule out the injured Steve Lomas, Andy Melville, Christian Dailly, and Bobby Zamora.
Trent, a right back, and Darren, a left-sided centre half, have yet to figure in the first team.
