The goal was a belter, but says modestly: "Marlon played it from the right and I just tried to hit it as hard as I could.
"It took a little deflection and luckily it went in. It wasn't something that I needed, as such - but it was good for a bit of confidence to score my first goal for the first-team.
"The fans gave me a good reception, which was nice and it was a big moment for me."
Chris played left midfield in the absence of the injured Matthew Etherington but admits he has no preference about where he plays.
"I don't mind at all. The manager said that in the future he sees me being more of a left-back than a left winger," he smiles, "though I like centre midfield as well!
"It is always going to be a loss if Mattie is injured as he is one of our best players and was, of course, voted the Hammer of the Year last season, but whoever fills in for him has to do their best."
As for Adam Nowland's penalty, a chip that was saved to give Anderlecht a 5-4 victory [reported on the Anderlecht web site as being a Michael Carrick misdemeanour!] Chris says:
"He showed he has got great confidence and though it didn't come off that time I am sure it will again - it is not his fault we lost in the end.
"He went for it and it didn't come off on the day."
As for the game overall, he adds:
"Anderlecht started quite lively, but we did really well in the middle of the game. You've got to remember they are a good team so to score four past them was a great achievement. With the players they have got up front they are going to be dangerous. The two strikers were excellent."
Chris played at every level for the Hammers last season, so what will this term bring?
"It was a massive season for me last time out and I will just try and carry on doing my best. I know I could be in the Rreserves all year or I might get another chance in the first-team. I will have to wait and see and take what comes."
Chris welcomes the additions that Alan Pardew has made to the squad and adds:
"Teddy and Rebrov are real quality and the experience, as well as the ability, that Teddy brings to the Club will be of enormous benefit for the younger players.
"We haven't lost a game so far, which is a great confidence booster going into the Leicester game on Saturday. We all certainly know what is expected of us and t where we want to be."
