Alan Pardew is looking for Anton Ferdinand and Wayne Quinn to fight
it out for the left back position - with the possibility of Rufus
Brevett making an appearance at the end of the campaign.
Jon Harley has gone back to Fulham after his three month temporary spell expired and Alan says:
"His loan came to an end, and it was a straight choice for me whether I could do a deal with Fulham and take him full time or not, and I didn't think that was possible.
"He has gone back and I think we have got good replacements for him.
"Anton took the position Saturday and Quinny is still struggling with injury but obviously he will put that position under pressure as well.
"There is a small outside chance that Rufus could be involved or in the squad for the last game - but we will have to see.
"I'd have taken Jon on a permanent basis if I didn't think we could have filled the position."
