The system first employed by Trevor Brooking this season, and used to accommodate Marlon Harewood on Tuesday, is likely to be used under Alan Pardew in the first ever league fixture with Wigan Athletic now that Marlon is set for his home debut.
It might mean a bit more running in midfield but Michael says:
"If they are doing their job it makes our job and that of the back four a lot easier so we will just wait and see how it goes."
Michael tips Marlon to settle in quickly and adds:
"It is a great bunch of lads and I don't think he will have any problems settling in.
"We just met Marlon an hour and a half before the kick off against Wimbledon.
"The keeper has made a good save from him near the end so hopefully he can get a couple on his home debut."
As for the draw sequence Michael adds:
"I don't know how long it is going to continue for but it is definitely frustrating for us - and the fans.
"It is unbelievable really - but what can you do?
"I thought we played the best football after we scored on Tuesday and then when they equalised the game went dead a bit.
"The lads were disappointed and the pitch was tiny, they played five across midfield, and stopped us so we had to go long as opposed to playing out through Jamo.
"There wasn't any space and all credit to them, but we have got to be better than that and stamp our authority on them - which we didn't do.
"The pressure is going to build even though results elsewhere went for us on Tuesday as well.
"It is funny because everyone seems to have been doing the same as us in the last few weeks and after the run we have had we are still there.
"We keep saying we are going to put a run together but it is just about getting that first win to get us up the ladder.
"Things haven't gone to plan lately but I am still confident we will pull through.
"It is weird, I don't understand it, but we are going to have to do something about it soon."
