"The good run we had in the last three months or so showed that there was some Premiership quality there. We knew that, it was just about confidence and belief," says Trevor, who has spoken to Joe about his call-up while the player was on holiday.
"Trevor Sinclair getting back in the squad was a big boost for him and now David James has a big opportunity to establish himself as England's number one.
"I thought Joe did really well in midfield when we played three there. He was more controlled and thought about releasing the ball.
"He created a lot of the goals and other chances without having to beat the world, so to speak; it was quite a mature Joe that finished the season.
"Hopefully that influenced the fact that when there was an opening to be upgraded and I hope Joe will get the chance to stay in the senior side for good."
