Paul: Florent Not A Target

Paul Goddard denies claims from Bolton centre half Florent Laville that West Ham could have signed him from Lyon in January.

"I didn't know about him and it was the first time I'd seen him play, on telly against Tottenham," says Paul, "and I am not aware of that claim."

Paul hopes that David James can do himself and the club credit in his first competitive games for England - after 11 friendlies - and adds:

"It looks like David is going to get another opportunity; he has been very good recently and we hope he can carry that on into the England game.

"He has been in and around the England team for a long while now, he has got lots of experience, and hopefully he can do it in the competitive international arena at the same level."

He hopes David and everyone else who is away can stay fit, adding:

"Unfortunately the squad is not together and I think we were down to nine training the other day.

"With the amount of players we have on international duty we are just looking to collect everyone together as soon as possible to get ourselves ready for Southampton."

he is delighted at three clean sheets in a row and adds:

"We have worked very hard at that part of our game, it has shown rewards, and everyone has benefited from it - long may it continue."
