Unsy Backs Hammers

David Unsworth is backing West Ham to beat the drop - especially if Ian Pearce and Tomas Repka can reproduce the sort of performance they put in against his side at the weekend.

"From our point of view we were a bit disappointed and I felt we didn't produce any spark to carve a good opportunity out," says the Everton defender who of course once wore the claret and blue.

"Alan Stubbs had a decent opportunity, but I think on reflection a point was a fair result."

But, casting an expert's eye over West Ham's central defensive partnership, he says: "I thought Repka and Pearcey in particular were outstanding; he had a massive game for West Ham.

"And I thought Repka played well. I am sure if he puts in performances like that, him and Pearcey, that there won't be any problems there."

David has fond memories of Upton Park, and adds: "I thoroughly hope West Ham remain in the Premiership - without a shadow of a doubt I still have a special feeling for the club.

"My time there was a special year for me, we were successful, and I was treated very well by all the staff and all the fans.

"I would back West Ham any day - and I know there are some big games coming up against teams in and around the bottom.

"They are going to be massive matches so all I can say is 'good luck - and I hope you stay up.'
