Phil's Important Year

Tony Carr hopes that Phil Lumsden can earn a professional contract after his final year as a trainee at the club.

Carr said: "Phil Lumsden is a north east boy from Wallsend boys club who came to the club late as a 16 year old; he filled many roles, having played at left back, centre back, wide on the right, and predominantly central midfield where his energy, commitment, and desire have been there for all to see.

"We have given him a third year to possibly settle him into one position or another and progress him further."

If he does succeed, he will be following in the footsteps of Michael Carrick, who also played for the famous Wallsend boys club.

Meanwhile, the reserve team friendly scheduled for July 30th has been officially cancelled due to West Ham's other commitments.

The second string are next in action on Monday, August 4th, away to St Albans City in the final preseason friendly.
