"I think we have to accept that there is some housekeeping to be done in terms of the possibility of losing one or two more players; I hope it is not any more than that and Trevor Brooking was the first to say that after we lost our Premiership status after the Birmingham game last year," says Glenn.
"We accept that; it is the way it is going to pan out - we have lost Glen Johnson and we accept the possibility we will lose a couple more.
"From my point of view, with that happening, it will give me the opportunity to bring in as many as five or six which I will need to do to give the squad a look of being big enough to deal with the extra games we are going to have to play this year.
"In an ideal world I would like double that number - but we have to accept we are not living in an ideal world at the moment."
10 players left on free transfers in the summer with Glen Johnson having completed his move to Chelsea on Tuesday and Les Ferdinand opting to join Leicester City for his last season as a senior pro.
"If we were to lose two or three and bring in five or six that would bring up the senior numbers to 16 or 17 players - which is still far from being large," adds Glenn.
"But with five or six young players that could possibly get an opportunity this season that is how expect we will have to operate this year, and why it is so important to bounce back so next year we can get back to the sort of numbers that we want at the club."
