He insists he will not bring someone in just to make up the numbers, despite the fact that Fredi Kanoute and Paolo Di Canio are both edging nearer full fitness.
"I am not looking for a 'shadow' striker, I am looking for a very experienced one who can come and play in the team and create competition for places," Glenn says.
"There is no point having anyone come in who can't do a job and there is no point bringing in a striker that I can't put on the field during the game.
"The player that has been targeted has lots and lots of experience and can still bring a lot to the rest of our season.
"The deal is not necessarily closer - it hasn't moved on and it hasn't gone backwards either, it has just stagnated and it needs one or two other transfers to happen before ours happens."
There is a contingency plan if the transfer doesn't happen but he adds:
"You always have to have a plan B but the very nature of it being plan B means it is not as good as plan A!"
