Matthew: Glad To Be Here

New signing Matthew Kilgallon admits he is shocked that West Ham were relegated last season - but is predicting a quick return to the Premiership.

The 19 year old, who has just arrived on a three month loan deal, says:

"I was surprised West Ham went down because of the cultured players they had; I didn't want to see them go down because I like watching them as well - hopefully they will bounce back up."

Of his move, he says:

"I only found out yesterday and before I knew it I was there on the night; there were some other clubs but Peter Reid thought this would be the best for me because of the manager here and the opportunity to learn.

"Sunderland were after me as well as some second division clubs, but I am not sure who they were.

"I want to gain the experience of playing against some good teams.

"I trained this morning and it has been good tempo and all the lads have been great - hopefully I will play some games and go back to Leeds and see what happens then.

"If I play well here we will see what happens when I go back.

"There is still a lot of talent at West Ham and there was some really good play and good goals in training today.

"I would love to get some games in but I have to impress in training and see what happens."

Matthew actually made his Leeds debut against West Ham last season, and he recalls:

"I was only on for five minutes but I had to pick up David James on a corner because he had come up for it!

"He is about 6'6" and I was thinking 'please don't let the ball come to him!"

Matthew will wear number 22.
