Steve, who returned to action earlier than originally anticipated when he came on as a second half substitute for Eduoard Cisse at the weekend, admits: "It was very disappointing. We were hoping the game would kick our season off with three points but it has not happened and we have got to pick ourselves up.
"The home form was excellent last year but teams know they are going to be in for a tough game and they will come and battle - Charlton did that in abundance.
"The two goals we conceded were c**p at the end of the day - if you don't deal with set pieces it costs you dearly, which is what happened on Saturday.
"We never got into the flowing football of last season. We huffed and puffed, putting a bit of pressure on at the end, but never really had any clear cut chances."
Steve, who has had a shin injury, adds: "I am glad to be back but obviously not in those circumstances; I'll have a reserve game and take it from there."
