Steve Lomas says there can be no let-up following the win over Sunderland on Saturday.
"Obviously, after the poor showing against Birmingham, it was pleasing. It was a hard working performance on Saturday - as we knew it needed to be," he says.
"Sunderland were a little bit direct so the Fulham game might be a bit different."
Steve has been helping younger midfielders Michael Carrick and Joe Cole through the club's poor patch and he adds: "If you look at it Michael might have been a bit disappointed with the Birmingham game but apart from that we have enjoyed playing together and I think we have done reasonably well.
"As for Joe, I said to him on Saturday after the game that there will be a lot of games like that where you just have to grind it out for the sake of the team - and I think he did that.
"When you have battles like that it is not about how many tricks you can do and possibly you are not going to get forward that much.
"He worked really hard and I think everyone did - they are the sort of games where you have to do that.
"But it goes without saying that we can't afford to rest on our laurels - you get a few more bad results and you will be rooted to the bottom.
"If we can get a bit of a run going we can maybe get to mid-table.
"Psychologically it is better to be off the bottom but we have two massive games for the club coming up and in the predicament we are in we can't afford to slacken off."
