Glenn Looks Ahead

Glenn Roeder says that Graham Taylor's record in management has been "phenomenal."

"He has been to the very top of the tree with England and it is the pinnacle of any club manager's career to be asked to manage his country," says Glenn.

"I think he said at the time it was the greatest honour that could be bestowed on him; he is an excellent coach and he has proved that year after year.

"His service in management is over 20 years, which is phenomenal."

Aston Villa have the third best defensive record in the Premiership and Glenn admits the game will be a tough one.

"I think they have a very good squad of players and there is some real strength in depth there; if my memory serves me well Graham brought on Vassell who is an England striker off the subs' bench, Lee Hendrie came on, and so did Steve Staunton," he says.

"To be able to afford not to start those three players shows how strong a squad they are."

As for Paolo Di Canio's contract situation he says:

"It would be very unprofessional of me to talk about Paolo's situation when we haven't sat down and talked to him about it.

"He is having a terrific season, he has been very influential in the games where we have picked up points, and he is always the ultimate professional around the training ground.

"He loves his football and wouldn't know any other way but to give his best; he has been inspired and excellent - we need him, and at the moment we all need each other."

Glenn is not looking to sell anyone when the transfer window opens in January; he is only interested in acquisitions.

"I would be very much against anyone in the squad leaving and I haven't been told anything about 'belt tightening'," he says.

"We've been working on things for January for six weeks but there are not a lot of options about."

Sebastien Schemmel hopes to retain his place for the trip and says:

"This is a good game for us and I can't wait."

And Paul Goddard adds:

"There are real bitter memories from last season when we lost with the last kick of the match.

"I went away from that game feeling awful, but hopefully we can continue the positive attitude of the last couple of weeks."
