Glenn On Fredi 'fiction'

Glenn Roeder has received direct assurances that Liverpool are not looking to capture Fredi Kanoute from him.

Amidst renewed rumours, believed to emanate from a radio station, that Fredi had gone to Liverpool, Glenn says categorically:

"When the first speculation started last week I got in contact with Gerard Houllier by phone and he said:

'Glenn, if Liverpool signed every player we were linked with we would have a huge squad.'

"He did ask me if he was for sale, and I said 'absolutely not', to which he replied 'okay, that is the end of it.'

"Paul Aldridge also spoke to Rick Parry, who confirmed that if Fredi was not for sale they were not interested.

"It is disappointing this speculation has come up again, and I don't know who is driving it - but it has got to stop."

Fredi was quoted as saying he had spoken to Liverpool, though this was a misinterpretation, and Glenn stresses:

"I asked if Gerard had spoken to Fredi and he denied it, saying 'I wouldn't do that'.

"I trust Gerard and felt much happier after the conversation."

Meanwhile, Glenn says that Hayden Foxe could be on his way to Harry Redknapp's Portsmouth.

"I can confirm that Hayden has been given permission to speak to Portsmouth about a move," he says.
