Moncs: This Could Be The Last Time

John Moncur has declared himself fit for the last day of the season, and he says: "I want to see the fans."

Moncs, who has been missing through injury of late, says: "I'm back now, which is a good thing - I did some running last week and I'm in full training this week, with the calf problem that I had having cleared up.

"I don't know exactly what I'm doing next season yet, but it will be a big day on Saturday with my kids going and even my mum and dad, who don't usually watch me.

"The biggest thing for me is to say 'ta-ta' to the fans and that is the reason I want to be fit, nothing else."

John's contract is up this summer, and he adds: "It could be goodbye for the season, or forever, and if it is the latter it could be the last time I play at Upton Park.

"It would be a great occasion for me if it is and a sad one as well - a mixed day, but I want to be involved, whatever.

"It will be nice to be there whether I play or not, and, though nothing has been ironed out yet, I just want to enjoy the day and hopefully we can get a result.

"I just want to enjoy that day, and if I could get an appearance it would be even better, though I don't think I'll start.

"At the end of the day, to be sub and warm up would be a thrill, and if I get on, all the more pleasing - I'm looking forward to it, and hopefully the lads can finish what has been a really good season."

Whatever the future holds for Moncs, who has been at the club for eight seasons after joining from Swindon in August 1994, says that this has been a satisfactory campaign.

"The manager has done great, the lads have been different class, and it has been a good season," he says.
