The pitch, which is being completely relaid, is moving around 15m towards the Dr. Martens stand, and John explains:
"The work is being done by Hewitt's Sports Turf, the leading pitch constructor and the people that did the original pitch - and is ahead of schedule.
"It started on 20th May; much of the drainage, gravel, and sand is already in place, and there have been some modifications to the original pitch, with drainage pipes closer together at three metre centres to improve air flows, and plastic sheeting to prevent contamination of different layers.
"There are the drainage pipes, then layers of gravel, and finally the sand which comprises about 85% of the root zone.
"There is about 25mm of top soil mixed with the sand before seeding commences; hopefully that will begin on 30th June and, given good growing conditions, the pitch will be ready in six weeks.
"Desso, which is woven into the surface, is an excellent product and was successfully incorporated in our original pitch.
"New pitches continue to mature for several months, and ideally we would like a longer growing period before the first match - however, from past experience, we anticipate the surface will be perfect come 24th August.
"One of the benefits of the Sub Air system which we use is the ability to reverse the blowers and suck out the excess water which would deter root growth.
"Weather-wise last season was a particularly wet one, and we used this facility on a regular basis, and as a result the pitch held up very well against other Premiership clubs - but a little sunshine right now might be beneficial."
However, it is unlikely, despite the schedule, that a home friendly will be arranged at Upton Park.
"It is up to Glenn, but I can't see it happening as the pitch needs time to mature," explains John.
Off the field, the Centenary stand is being adapted to increase the number of away fans, as the club is required to, by 500.
This will then allow opposition support of 3,000, and mean that all away supporters will enter via the Priory Road entrance next season, with home fans coming in from Green Street.
The removal of the front seats in the Bobby Moore stand is being undertaken in order to give better sight lines, with the pitch being raised about a foot.
As for the East stand, John adds:
"It is tight there until we knock it down, and when that happens there will be a redesign for the away fans."
There is also rebuilding going on at Chadwell Heath, the club's training HQ.
