Mamar The Boy?

West Ham are not, as has been reported, in the hunt for Parma's Johan Micoud - but will introduce trialist Mamar Mamouni at Colchester on Friday evening.

Chief scout Ted Pearce says:

"I don't know where those stories are coming from but you can pour cold water on them - there is no interest in Micoud."

Mamouni, meanwhile, will be given a run-out at Layer Road as Glenn Roeder looks at his transfer options.

The 26 year old defender has scored 7 goals in 91 games for the French club.

David James becomes the second England player to return to action, and John Moncur will get his first game after being slightly injured with a back problem.

Youssef Sofiane, however, remains on the injured list, as does Steve Bywater [wrist] and Steve Lomas [knee].

Paolo Di Canio, who received treatment after the Southend game, is also ruled out.

SQUAD: James, Van der Gouw, Forde, Schemmel, Repka, Dailly, Labant, Garcia, Carrick, Cole, Kanoute, Mamouni, Moncur, Pearce, Winterburn, Defoe, Camara, Ferdinand, Iriekpen, Soma, McCann, Minto.

* Tickets for the first three games of the season are now on general sale, with the ticket office open on Saturday from 9 o' clock until 1.
