Titi Scores

West Ham United's reserve team got off the mark for the summer on Wednesday evening, winning 1-0 at Purfleet, with Titi Camara scoring the goal for a young side.

Coach Roger Cross said: "It was a good goal, with Grant McCann threading the ball through the middle of the park for Titi to run behind the defence.

"He didn't really have a pre-season last year, but is looking a little bit sharper - and I am sure he wants to get back in the picture and is as motivated as anyone.

"James Allen did well on the right and, although he is still an under-19 player, he is already in the reserves. He is a player of great ability."

Anton Ferdinand, who has signed a new long-term contract this week, also played, and Roger says: "It is a big bonus that he got in the reserves at the end of last season. He and Glen Johnson, who is away with the England squad, are formidable defenders.

"Anton is a very quiet boy, but there is a self-assurance about him."

Team: Forde, Ferdinand (Ward), Minto, Iriekpen, Soma, Allen, D.McMahon, McCann, Lumsden, Camara, Mehmet (Eastwood).
