With Trevor Sinclair returning to training, Seb is preparing to settle a bet the pair had on the last day of the season.
Seb said that if Trevor scored against Bolton - which he duly did - he would get his hair cut short [Trevor says shaved] and if not he would take out Mrs. Sinclair for a meal.
Just as well, perhaps, for the heavily pregnant Mrs. S. that Trevor popped up with the goal - sparking something of a debate about the nature of the hair cut.
Seb says defiantly:
"I am ready and I am waiting for when he wants but I will not have it shaved - this is for the young boys. "I will have it like Michael Carrick but I won't have a Joe Cole, this is the new fashion for the young boys; I am old, I am 27 - but a new hair cut won't be a problem."
On a more serious note is Seb's continuing injury worry; having said earlier in the week he was only 50/50 to start the first day of the season, he played briefly in the second half at Roots Hall on Tuesday night.
He reveals:
"It is still not okay, I was playing at 50% but every day it is much better, and I was happy on Tuesday, and Southend are a very good team.
"It is not me who decides, it is Glenn; the most important thing is the team, not me, and if Glenn thinks I am not ready, so be it.
"At this moment though, I am more confident, and I will play more time on Friday; I was pleased to return, but it is very difficult and I will work very hard to improve."
The injury goes back to the Arsenal game towards the end of last season, and he adds:
"When my ankle bone was broken the doctor says it would take three or four months and I am waiting.
"But I am gaining a few days; Glenn didn't want me to play at Southend, but I said I wanted to play 20 or 25 minutes just to start and see how it feels.
"Now everything is okay, and I need more work on the training ground.
"Everybody should be ready for the first game of the season, though everyone was tired at Southend after training in the morning - and maybe with more work I will be fit for the Newcastle game."
