His aim is to help West Ham into Europe as a thank you to the fans who accepted the one-time Gooner into their hearts, and he says: "We'd love to finish higher. When I first came I said that I thought West Ham could get a European place and I still believe that.
"It is going to be very difficult but it would be great if we could finish with a European place next season - but we are jumping the gun a little bit there.
"It is always nice to think we can do that, though - it is a positive thing."
Nigel knows that competition for places on the left is even tougher this season, and says: "I think whereas last year we were a little bit short there we hopefully will have strengthened the squad, and that will obviously give Trevor an option of playing left or right as well.
"It would be good for the fans and the club if we can maybe get a couple more in as well to strengthen the team because I think we did struggle when we had one or two injuries.
"And with teams like Manchester City spending a lot of money we need to be competing with these teams as much as we can."
Pity Stuart Pearce is no longer playing for them!
