"I'm looking forward to playing for West Ham and I hope we keep going like we finished last season, because I think in the second half of the season we performed well," he says.
"We need to start the season well as we want to qualify for Europe; it is very important because nowadays when you don't qualify you are not a big, big club.
"If you have big ambitions you want to qualify systematically every year, and we have to do that this season because it has been a long time since we last got into Europe."
Fredi does not believe the Champions' League is beyond the Hammers, but says:
"Maybe it is possible but I prefer to think little by little; we have to win all our games, take things how they come, and concentrate on one at a time.
"If we do well from week to week we will qualify for Europe - and maybe the Champions' League.
"But we don't want to be thinking about the end of the season just yet, when it hasn't even started."
Fredi is looking to improve his number of appearances after injury hampered him last season, and he adds:
"I had a few worries with my hamstring but it is not 'fatal' and I hope next season will be better.
"I have to score as many goals as I can - and I have to play well, too."
As for the competition up front, with Jermain Defoe, Paolo Di Canio and Fredi facing a three-way fight for a place - and Youssef Sofiane waiting in the wings - Fredi concludes:
"It is always interesting; we have to play very well up front and score more goals but it is about the whole team playing together, not just the forwards."
