Kids Not Disgraced

West Ham United's under-17s suffered a 2-0 defeat against Ipswich Town on Saturday but boss Peter Brabrook was still proud of the performance put in by his young and inexperienced team.

Fielding a team that finished up consisting of 10 outfield schoolboys, the Hammers matched a strong Town side every inch of the way and were only beaten by two goals in five minutes just before half-time.

Said Peter afterwards: "Considering we finished the match with a team full of under-16 schoolboys and they had eight staff boys in their team, I thought we did magnificently and I was very proud of the performance.

"We should have been in front early in the game but didn't take our chances and they scored two goals just before half-time after some inexperienced defending - which was only to be expected.

"We played very well in the second half, though, and it was pleasing to see the boys react in the right way and keep their discipline and shape."

Team: G.Sealey, Wright, Blewitt, Bunce, Laws, Parrington, Collington, Tucker, Morris (Noble 72), Pearson (66), Saunders (Cole 56).
