Fredi: Battle Ahead

Fredi Kanoute admits he is a doubt for the Blackburn game - but insists the Hammers can get out of the bottom three.

Fredi, whose return to the side against Fulham was a major boost after three months out, reveals:

"I don't know if I will play the next game; maybe the game after but I am not sure yet.

"It was a bit hard for me against Fulham because I wanted to test my groin to see if it was alright - but I am not in good, good shape yet."

The fact remains, however, that his coming back to fitness can really help the side if he stays injury-free for the remainder of the season - and the fans, by their reaction to his name being on the team sheet, know that only too well.

"The fans were very good; I felt warm when they gave me the reaction that they did after coming back from injury - and I thank them," he says.

Talking of the draw against Fulham which means the Hammers have only picked up five home points all season, he adds:

"Everyone is disappointed because I think we played a good part in the game - but it was not enough to score more goals.

"We kept trying, we deserved the penalty, and we scored with it - it was the correct decision.

"Anyway, no matter how we score goals we have to do it, and when Trevor scored it was very good for us.

"But maybe we weren't very focused for one second, like usual, and we conceded a goal again - but we have to stick together.

"I am looking to help Jermain but we all have to help each other, and that is what we are trying to do; there is still unity in the squad, still - but maybe a bit of disappointment.

"We will keep our chins up, though, and try to save ourselves; we have to battle to escape - we know we can go down now and we all have to fight together."
