In the pre-season absence of Steve Lomas and Paolo Di Canio, who have shared the captain's armband in recent times, David has been skipper and Glenn says: "He has been captain the last few days. He carries a lot of respect and he is one of the biggest players at the football club.
"He considers it an honour, a responsibility he feels he can carry and won't affect his game.
"There have been players, not at West Ham, but in general, whose form seems to go out the window when they are made captain because they can't carry the responsibility."
With Steve and Paolo still on the injured list, the likelihood is that David will carry on as skipper for the opening day fixture at Newcastle, and Glenn says: "It doesn't seem to affect him, he is a big personality, and we will just have to see what happens."
