The French defender received almost 80% of the votes in a poll among readers of the club's official monthly magazine, and was presented with a trophy and souvenir front cover before our 3-0 victory over Sunderland at Upton Park.
Since signing from Metz for just £465,000 last summer, Schemmel has been one of the most consistent performers in Glenn Roeder's squad, playing in all but one of our 39 league and cup matches so far this season.
His surging runs down the right flank and determined commitment in every game have made him a cult hero among Hammers fans, and he is also favourite to pick up the official Hammer of the Year trophy at the end of the campaign.
When told he would be receiving the magazine's award, Schemmel said: "This is a fantastic honour for me and I would like to thank the readers of Hammers News for voting me their player of the season."
