Tony Gale says that he understands Glenn Roeder's decision not
to apply for an InterToto cup place this season.
Although West Ham's current seventh spot would have guaranteed entry to it, Glenn was not keen on getting the players up to competitive speed by early July in order to accommodate the tournament.
And Tony agrees:
"It makes it a long old season and some of the boys are going to the World Cup; I think you just have to say Glenn's decision is the final one and it is probably for the best.
"The same fans who would want to go into the InterToto would be moaning if we tired towards the end of the season, as we did last time we entered it.
"It is a tough one; everyone wants to play in Europe but they realise the ramifications having of an extended season."
